Terranea Resort Rancho Palos Verdes Guest Reviews

4 out of 5

As stated by many other reviewers, the property on which this resort sits is spectacular. The views of the Pacific Ocean from just about anywhere are beautiful. With three pools, several restaurants/lounges, and other activities like the par 3 golf course, one really doesn't need to leave the property in order to be entertained. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and very pleasant; but they are not particularly special considering the price. You are paying for the gorgeous view from your room (I imagine almost all the rooms have a view of some sort) and for the well-maintained and expansive grounds on this prime real estate. The front desk staff was SO welcoming and went out of their way to give us the best room available at the time of check-in for each of our two rooms. In fact, I mentioned that we were celebrating a special occasion, and we were upgraded to a room with a really fabulous view. I had requested a "quiet" room away from the pool, and this request was also met without a reminder. I believe they also upgraded our 2nd room, which wasn't even a same-day check in! So we very much appreciated that. Breakfast in the restaurant was wonderful and served efficiently by very pleasant staff. However, it was as expensive as any breakfast I've seen anywhere. We had lunch and dinner at different places around the grounds, and the food was good but not particularly great for the price. But once again, it was the ambiance that was exceptional everywhere. We ate at outside tables at every venue on the property every meal, and two out of three restaurants had unbeatable views of the ocean. It was heavenly... The bad news is that we had one special celebration dinner at the upscale restaurant on the property. The service was poor. We eat out a lot, and I've never experienced worse. We sat for close to 30 minutes in a one third full restaurant before we stopped the waiter who kept walking briskly by, and asked if we could order drinks He was uppity and bordered on rude and said he would be with us as soon as he dealt with another table. From then on, our meal was basically ruined. It was VERY expensive, the menu items were odd, the portions were small, and the food was not memorable. So the meal we most looked forward to ended up being an embarrassment to us since we were treating our guests, and a costly mistake. This is such a shame since the location and set-up of this facility is rivaled by few anywhere. It could be such an asset to the resort. All in all, I loved this place and what it had to offer. I would go back in a heart beat; but I'd not dine in their upscale restaurant again. Too bad, because it could make a great stay into one even more memorable.

After running around LA for 2days, Terranea was an oasis where we slowed down The spa was outstanding. The facilities were new and every detail thought through. Cudos to ever does the hiring and training.....it's a sincere group who strive very hard to be part of a wonderful experience.

The resort with beautiful ocean and Mediterranean design is quite attractive at first sight. Everything in the resort is expensive, such as American breakfast of $25 per person and daily internet charge of $25. If you are looking for a Hawaiian resort like Hualalai, it is quite different and dissapointing in terms of climate and hospitality.
