Tate Modern Layout

When Tate Modern joined this family of galleries space was made for an expanding collection of modern art. The main entrance opens into the 35,000 square feet sloped Turbine Hall. Level 2 holds the café and foyer. Level 3 and 5 are gallery levels with level 4 housing temporary exhibitions. Level 6 is for members only, but a superb restaurant and spectacular city views can be found on level 7.

Tate Modern Organization

Tate Modern organizes its displays by theme rather than by chronology or school, placing modern artists such as Patrick Caulfield and Jackson Pollack alongside figures like Claude Monet. Four themes, Material Gestures, Poetry and Dream, Nude/Action/Body, and History/Memory/Society, reveal how traditions have been challenged by modern artists. The displays are changed regularly.

It costs nothing to tour the Tate Modern’s regular collections. It is open daily, Sunday through Thursday from 10am – 6pm, and Friday and Saturday from 10am – 10pm, closing only for the Christmas holiday.
